Dear Vincent Massey Parents/Guardians:

 

Thank you to all the families who joined us for the Oshawa Generals Appreciation Night on Sunday night.  Congratulations to our Choir, who sang O Canada for the over 5000 fans in attendance with confidence and pride.

 

This week our students will be participating in our Remembrance Day assembly on November 11.  We will be emphasizing the contributions of veterans from all backgrounds as we continue to strive for peace in our world today.

 

We are looking forward to our Progress Report Interviews with you later this week.  If you have not yet signed up for your interview, please do so now to make sure you reserve the time that works best for you and your family.

 

Please also stop by the Lost and Found by the office to pick up any items that belong to your household.

 

STAFFING UPDATE

Ms. Jones, our Vice-Principal, has returned to work part time.  She will be in the school in the mornings only this week.  We will have supply administrators, who are retired principals, in her place during her absences in the afternoon.

 

Welcome Mr. B. Britt, our new Core French teacher.  Mr. Britt’s first day was Monday, November 10 and he will be teaching the classes of Ms..R. Taylor, Mr. Sinclair, Ms. S. Taylor, Ms. Wilkin and Mr. Sparrow.

Bus Information

 

As we approach the winter season, we are sending this reminder about the Durham Student Transportation Services (DSTS) Family Portal.

 

Using the DSTS Family Portal, you can track your child’s bus and also sign up for notifications of delays and cancellations.

 

If you have not done so already, please visit www.dsts.ca to sign up for the Family Portal.

If you have any questions about buses, you can call DSTS directly at 905-666-6395.

 

SPOTLIGHT ON HEALTH - GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESSES & PEDICULOSIS

At this time of year, we often see an increase in gastrointestinal illnesses (“stomach flu”) and pediculosis (“Head Lice”).

 

We are providing some information from the Durham Region Health Department on how to prevent these conditions.

 

Please also be aware that individuals with diarrhea or vomiting should not return to school until symptom-free for at least 48 hours (i.e., 48hrs after the last episode of vomiting/diarrhea and should seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

Progress Reports

Progress Reports will be distributed by email on Wednesday, November 12.  You will need your child’s OEN number to access their report card.  

 

Parent-Teacher Interviews

We will be holding Parent-Teacher Interviews on Thursday, November 13th from 3:30 - 7:30 pm and Friday, November 14th from 8:35 - 11:35 am. This year, you will be able to schedule your Parent-Teacher Interviews online.

 If you wish to schedule a meeting with any of your child's teachers, please follow the instructions printed further down the page.

Please note that these appointments are for in-person appointments.  If you prefer a phone interview, please contact your child’s teacher directly and they will schedule the appointment.

Please also note that in Grade 7 and 8, the interview times are prioritized for interviews with homeroom teachers.  If you wish to speak with one of your child’s other teachers, please contact your child’s teacher directly.

Please go to the Vincent Massey Public School Website - Educator Page and select “Email” to send an email to the teacher. 

 You will be able to make appointments until November 12th at 9:00 pm.

Instructions

1. Go to the Vincent Massey scheduling webpage at https://parentinterview.com/s/vmps

2. Enter the Parent Code (printed below) and click "Sign In"

  Please make a note of your Confirmation #

3. Fill in your contact information and click "Continue to Make Appointments"

4. Click on the name of a teacher with whom you wish to schedule an appointment

5. Click on an "Available" time at which you wish to have your meeting

6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until you have scheduled all the teachers you wish to meet

7. Click on "My Schedule" (top left of the page)

8. Print out, email or copy down your schedule

 

Do not share this code with anyone outside your school community

 Should you wish to cancel an appointment you have made, click on "Cancel" beside the meeting you wish to have removed from your schedule.

If you misplace your schedule, you may use your Confirmation # to retrieve your schedule from the website at any time. If you need help using the service, please email support@parentinterview.com

 

SPOTLIGHT ON COMMUNITY - SCC NEWS

 

VIBE NIGHT - DODGE BALL - NOVEMBER 20

The first VIBE Night is on Thursday, November 20 at 6:30 p.m. Join us for some family fun playing dodge ball.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

 

The next SCC Meeting is on Tuesday, November 25 at 6:15 p.m.
