Bus Notifcation Information - DSTS and mTransport

Dear Vincent Massey Parents/Guardians:

 

This message is for the families of students who ride the bus to come to school.  

 

We have two information items today.  

 

Firstly, we are reminding families of how to receive notifications about bus delays and cancellations.

 

Secondly, we are providing information to families about how to request a replacement mTransport Bus Pass/Fob when your child’s pass is missing or damaged.  Several of our students do not currently have a bus card.  The bus cards are required when embarking and disembarking from the bus, and failure to have a bus card could result in the loss of bus riding privileges.

 

DSTS Bus Notifications

 

We understand that obtaining timely information about delays or cancellations to buses is helpful for families to plan their day.

 

In circumstances where there is a mechanical breakdown of a bus in the morning or a delay of the bus in the morning there will always be a bus at the end of the day to transport students back home.

 

Communication about bus delays and cancellations comes to families and schools directly from Durham Student Transportation Services. 

 

Using the DSTS Family Portal, you can track your child’s bus and also sign up for notifications of delays and cancellations.

Families wishing to use the DSTS subscription service, please be aware that it is the student's "OEN" number that is required for login. "OEN" numbers can be obtained from the student's school only.

If you have any questions about buses, you can call DSTS directly at 905-666-6395.

Please refrain from contacting the school to obtain bus information unless it is an extreme emergency.  

Alternatively, families can receive bus information directly using the mTransport Notification App.

Notifications: The mTransport mobile app allows families to receive notifications regarding your students' transportation.  You can activate alerts to notify you when your student has boarded the bus, exited the bus and when the bus has left the stop previous to your students' stop. You will be able to view the mTransport dashboard whenever you want on your mobile phone, tablet or computer. You will be able to choose which notifications you want to receive and select your preferred methods of communication: Push notification, text message or email.

Can I use my mTransport Mobile App account on two different devices? Yes, you can install mTransport on as many devices as you want and log in with your account. All devices will share the same notification preferences.

Downloading mTransport Mobile App:  You can download the app on Android and Apple devices through the app store. You must use the same email address that you have registered with your student's school. Note: When connecting to the application for the first time, you must validate your email address and follow the instructions to create a password. You can then accept notifications and choose which ones you want to receive.

MTRANSPORT BUS CARD/FOB

All students who ride the bus are required to swipe their bus pass upon embarking and disembarking.  Students who do not have a card may be deemed to be a non-rider and may be removed from transportation services.

Replacement cards are not printed at the school and can only be requested through mTransport.

To request a replacement mTransport Bus Pass, please use this link:  Replacement Bus Pass Request

  1. Click on I need a replacement DSTS Transportation Card link above. 

  2. Enter the student’s OEN number and date of birth. 

  3. A DSTS Transportation Card will be generated on the screen, which can be printed, saved to an email address or saved as a picture on a mobile device to be used until the new physical card has been created and sent to the school. 

  4. Additionally, from the page you can register your email address for use with the mTransport Application. 

  5. Emails take 1 business day to process so once you have filled out this information your email will be recognized by the mTransport app the following day.
