SPOTLIGHT ON LEARNING - TERM 1 REPORT CARDS - FEBRUARY 18

Term 1 Report Cards will be sent home digitally on Wednesday, February 18.  You will need your child’s OEN to access their report card.  You can find the OEN on previous report cards.

About the Kindergarten Communication of Learning

Rather than a traditional report card, Kindergarten uses a "Communication of Learning" focused on development through play and inquiry.

  • The Four Frames: Progress is categorized into four areas:

  1. Belonging and Contributing

  2. Self-Regulation and Well-Being

  3. Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours

  4. Problem Solving and Innovating

  • Feedback Style: Educators provide personalized, easy-to-understand comments regarding the child's growth and "key learning."

About the Grade 1 - 8 Report Card

The elementary report card includes curriculum-based grading and the development of specific learning skills and work habits.

  • Grading Scale:

    •  Grades 1–6: Letter grades.

  • Grades 7–8: Percentage marks.

  • Evaluation Criteria: Teachers assess six learning skills and work habits alongside academic subjects.

  • Assessment Method: Grades are based on a variety of evidence (projects, tests, conversations, and performances). Teachers prioritize the "most recent and consistent" work rather than a simple mathematical average.

  • The Role of Homework: While homework is used to build skills and consolidate knowledge, it is not included in the calculation of the final grade.

Please visit the Ontario Ministry of Education website - Kindergarten Communication of Learning  and Ontario Ministry of Education website - Grade 1 - 8 Report Cards for further information.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL NEWS

Spring Fair Planning Meeting - Wednesday, February 4, 6:15 p.m.

Warmer weather is just around the corner, and with it comes the excitement of planning our Spring Fair! Many of you will remember the incredible fun and energy we shared at last year’s event — the positive feedback from families, students, and staff was truly inspiring.

Because of the tremendous success of last year’s Spring Fair, we are thrilled to share that every student now has access to our new Outdoor Classroom learning space. This beautiful addition to our school environment is a direct reflection of what we can achieve when our community comes together with spirit and purpose.

As we look ahead to this year’s Spring Fair, we encourage families to think about how they might contribute to making it another memorable celebration. Whether you have time to help plan, volunteer, or share ideas, every contribution helps us continue building meaningful traditions for our students.

We warmly welcome all families interested in supporting and organizing this year’s Spring Fair to join us for a planning meeting on:

- Wednesday, February 4
- 6:15 p.m.

If you are unable to attend in person, please use the link in the email message.

Your involvement makes all the difference — and we can’t wait to create another special event together!

Please take a few minutes to complete this form, whether you are able to attend or if you have a suggestion.  You can indicate if you are interested in attending the meeting as well as indicate any questions or suggestions.
